Chana masala

Ingredients:

  • 1 can garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 medium onion chopped
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 inch ginger chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 – 1 green chili chopped
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp amchoor (or can replace with lemon juice)
  • 1/4 tsp haldi (tumeric)
  • 1 large tomato chopped (or about 1/4-1/3 of a can of diced tomatoes)


Instructions:

  1. Heat oil and saute the onions until they’re golden brown
  2. Lower heat, add ginger and garlic, and saute for a few minutes
  3. Add the garam masala, coriander powder, salt and haldi and fry an additional minute or two
  4. Add the tomatoes and chickpeas along with the juice
  5. Add the pepper, amchoor or lemon juice and mix well
  6. Cover well and let cook about 10-15 minutes
  7. Uncover and let gravy reduce to liking
  8. Garnish with fresh tomatoes and potato wedges if you want
