Yellow Dal

Time: Several hours on stove or in rice cooker. Faster with pressure cooker.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of yellow dal
- 1 large tomato or 2 small tomatoes, chopped
- fresh cilantro
- 1 small green chili
- 1 teaspoon of salt, add more if necessary
- 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric
- 2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 4 or 5 curry patta
- 1 teaspoon garlic
Instructions:
- Soak the dal overnight
- Rinse the dal
- Put in pot with twice the amount of water and simmer, stirring periodically
- Continue adding small amounts of water until the dal is dissolved
- If possible, let it cool and then blend it to make it creamier
- Add chopped tomato, cilantro, chillies and salt
- Next, to make the tarka, fry the cumin, garlic and curry patta. Once garlic starts to change color, add the oil, garlic, cumin and carry patta to the dal
- Can adjust water and salt quantity if needed
